typically on his toes, gained compensation for having missed Cheltenham, showing more than enough stamina on his first attempt beyond 2m, the win opening up options for next season, with the King George a potential target, still in his prime as a chaser for a while yet; never far away, travelled well, smooth headway straight, led after 2 out, ridden soon after, edged left, kept on well run-in.

A good renewal of the Melling on paper, featuring the first 3 from the Ryanair, as well as last year's winner Pic d'Orhy, though the multiple Grade 1 winner Jonbon was sent off a short price despite a defeat at 4/1-on last time out and a step up in trip, the proving justified in a well-run race.

JONBON (FR) typically on his toes, gained compensation for having missed Cheltenham, showing more than enough stamina on his first attempt beyond 2m, the win opening up options for next season, with the King George a potential target, still in his prime as a chaser for a while yet; never far away, travelled well, smooth headway straight, led after 2 out, ridden soon after, edged left, kept on well run-in.
