showed much improved form to follow up his Dundalk maiden win after 4 months off, no fluke about it either, the step up in trip clearly suiting him well; in rear, headway out wide entering straight, ridden when bumped under 2f out, edged ahead soon after, driven out; open to further improvement.

confirmed debut promise and then some after 6 months, unlucky not to win, inexperience as big a factor in his defeat as the interference suffered in the straight; held up, smooth headway entering straight, effort when bumped over 1f out, every chance when hung left final 1f, kept on; sure to progress and win races.

took a step forward from debut - form that has worked out quite well - though not so big a one as was expected, the run probably just needed a bit more than anticipated, Moore not hard on him; mid-division, headway entering straight, second 2f out, hung right over 1f out, bumped, no extra; open to further improvement and remains one to be positive about.

the only one of these with a recent run under his belt, tried to make the most of that fitness edge, seemingly just coming up short for ability; made running, kicked on over 3f out, headed approaching final 1f, no extra.

turned in a rather laboured display after 6 months off, a shade disappointing all told, though the ground does offer some mitigation; mid-division, pushed along 4f out, plugged on, never landed a blow.

ran no sort of race after 8 months off, never looking comfortable at any stage, the ground presumably a factor; chased leader, never going pace, driven over 3f out, weakened final 1f.

A bit of an upset in the first recognised Derby trial of the year, the outsider of the sextet coming out on top, but with the first 3 home having had just 4 previous starts between them there is every reason to believe that it will turn out to be an at least up-to-scratch renewal; a notable winner for trainer John Murphy, this was the first time since 2016 that this prize was not won by a member of the O'Brien clan.

WHITE BIRCH showed much improved form to follow up his Dundalk maiden win after 4 months off, no fluke about it either, the step up in trip clearly suiting him well; in rear, headway out wide entering straight, ridden when bumped under 2f out, edged ahead soon after, driven out; open to further improvement.
