hadn't beaten a horse on his last 2 starts (though with excuses last time), but bounced back to form in a less competitive contest, taking advantage of the battle between the market leaders, picking the pair off late on; slowly into stride, detached in rear, closed up early in straight, effort over 2f out, led well inside final 1f, in command soon after; he's in the John Smith's Cup, though would be off top weight under a penalty and there are likely to be easier options for him.

wasted no time in getting back on track, though having looked the likely winner for much of the straight, he got past the leader only once the pair had been headed late on; tracked pace, travelled well, upsides 3f out, shaken up 2f out, every chance well inside final 1f, no extra.

All 4 runners had contested the Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot last time out, Saga the only one of the quartet to give anything like his running then, the winner a 100/1-chance that day and understandably the outsider of the quartet this time, so while his victory was a convincing one, it's probably best to take a cautious view of the form, the second and third perhaps softening one another up in a protracted battle from 3f out.

SAVVY VICTORY (IRE) hadn't beaten a horse on his last 2 starts (though with excuses last time), but bounced back to form in a less competitive contest, taking advantage of the battle between the market leaders, picking the pair off late on; slowly into stride, detached in rear, closed up early in straight, effort over 2f out, led well inside final 1f, in command soon after; he's in the John Smith's Cup, though would be off top weight under a penalty and there are likely to be easier options for him.

POKER FACE (IRE) wasted no time in getting back on track, though having looked the likely winner for much of the straight, he got past the leader only once the pair had been headed late on; tracked pace, travelled well, upsides 3f out, shaken up 2f out, every chance well inside final 1f, no extra.
