Starman had looked something out of the ordinary in winning a novice under a penalty at Doncaster and he is potentially a sprinter right out of the top drawer, judging by his performance in completing his hat-trick, runner-up Dakota Gold at the top of his game, well clear of the others, but no match for the winner, his level of form not far removed from that shown by Dream of Dreams in winning the Group 1 Sprint Cup the previous day, remarkable that he should reach such a level after just 3 runs; the majority of the field raced up the centre before ing the pair that raced on the stand rail with 2f to run.

STARMAN has reached a high level in a very short space of time, showing smart form on his third start, barely 2 months since his debut, looking at ease at this level and producing a performance that would have seen him competitive in the best sprints; held up, effort over 2f out, led inside final 1f, kept on well, pushed out; he's destined for better things, entered in the Champions Sprint, in which he would be a major player were he to take his chance, though softer ground would be an unknown (reportedly likely to rule him out).

DAKOTA GOLD bidding to repeat last year's success, had a penalty for his win last time and ran up to his best, in a race which went ideally for him, finishing well clear of the rest, but with no answer to the winner late on; broke well, led, went with zest, shaken up 2f out, headed inside final 1f, kept on; he's entered in the Ayr Gold Cup, where he would be off a BHA mark of 112, with a penalty, requiring a career best to make the first 3 in all likelihood.

WATAN again failed to match the form he showed on his return, though he shaped better than the distance beaten, asked to come from too far back and doing well to finish third; in rear, travelled well, shaken up over 2f out, kept on, took third final 50 yds, had a hopeless task from position.

JUDICIAL (IRE) produced one of his lesser efforts, things not falling ideally for him this time, the effort of giving chase to the runner-up telling; chased leader, ridden over 2f out, not quicken over 1f out.

VENTURA REBEL in first-time visor, essentially wasn't up to the task; held up, pushed along halfway, lost place soon after; he's entered in the Champions Sprint, but he'd be wasting his time at the level.

MAJOR JUMBO had the blinkers quickly dispensed with and performed better, though he was still a fair way below his best at the end; in touch, shaken up halfway, edged right, not quicken, faded late on.

MUMS TIPPLE (IRE) after 8 weeks off, was back at York for the first time since his win in the sales race at the Ebor meeting a year ago, but he still wasn't able to rekindle the magic of that performance, running to just a fairly useful level; raced stand side, led group, hung left, ridden halfway, weakened under 2f out.

ARISTOCRATIC LADY (IRE) had made rapid strides this summer, but ran poorly, up in grade, perhaps the ground needing to be on the firm side for her to show her form ; raced stand side, tracked leader, shaken up over 2f out, not quicken, weakened final 1f.
