The smallest field for the Sun Chariot since 2006 but it was a renewal that was well up to standard, a pair of stablemates with 9 Group 1 wins between them taking on the 3-y-os which included a pair of classic winners - Darnation's having come on the continent - and the well-backed favourite who was an unlucky loser in one of those races; the pace was fair at best, Tamfana quickening to the front over 2f out and well in command by the time they entered the final 1f after the now-retired Inspiral's effort began to flatten out, taking her form to a very smart level.

TAMFANA (GER) was all the rage in the betting despite seeming to have something to find and duly improved, following up from the Atalanta - when beating a next-time-out winner - and deservedly gaining a breakthrough success at the highest level (had been most unlucky in the 1000 Guineas over C&D earlier in the year), given an uncomplicated ride with Keane on board for the first time and impressing with how easily she went about things, soon having matters in hand when asked, this performance up there with the best from a filly at the distance this season; prominent, led on bridle over 2f out, driven under 2f out, in command entering final 1f; will have serious claims of completing the hat-trick in the QEII later in the month if she turns up, already proven in the mud if conditions worsen and right in the mix from a form perspective after the sex/weight-for-age allowances are taken into , ante-post quotes of 7/1 seeming generous, whilst beyond that she 's very much one to follow into her 4-y-o campaign, too.

INSPIRAL sweating/edgy beforehand (wore a red hood in the preliminaries) after 7 weeks off, was easy to back with her stable having been quiet by its standards in the last month, but turned in her best effort of the season bidding to win this race for the second successive year (previously 2-2 on the Rowley Mile), just no match for an upwardly-mobile 3-y-o; dwelt, in rear, rapid headway under 3f out, chased leader over 1f out, not quicken last ½f; a 6-time Group 1 winner, including at 2,3 and 4 yrs, she's been a grand servant for connections and will now head to the paddocks.

SEE THE FIRE did all she could 6 weeks on from winning the Strensall returned to the top level, now placed on her last 2 starts in this company, just lacking the change of gear possessed by the pair who beat her this time; in touch, took keen hold, effort 2f out, one paced; her very best efforts this year have come at trips in excess of 1m and there could be more to come when back over further next season.

ELMALKA who'd beaten the other 3-y-os in the 1000 Guineas, still had something to find despite that but ran well back down in trip after 9 weeks off; held up, pushed along 3f out, headway over 1f out, kept on; she's fully established as a smart filly but lacks scope and has probably reached her limit, so might need her sights lowering if she's to regain the winning thread.

NASHWA had reportedly had a setback since her outing in Dubai 6 months earlier and looked very much in need of the run, given a considerate return; raced off the pace, took strong hold, shaken up under 3f out, hands-and-heels ride, never involved; she's likely to be much closer to form next time, entered in both the Queen Elizabeth II and Champion Stakes, as effective at both trips.

DARNATION (IRE) back down in trip after 8 weeks off, needed to find plenty of improvement returned to a Group 1 on these shores and wasn't up to the task; dwelt, soon led, headed over 2f out, weakened approaching final 1f.
